Stall Fall 2021 - Safe Return to Play

Once again we are incredibly excited to get back to playing! Sports and recreation play an important role in the physical, social and mental well-being of both our players and our wider community. We have long prided ourselves on our amazing community of players playing ‘with’ each other and not just ‘against’ each other in our leagues in order to create a welcoming environment and lasting friendships. In this new normal, we’ll require the buy-in of all of our players to help ensure we do this safely together. It will require some patience, some kindness and some communication as we work through the process, but together we can and will play sports again.

Players, please read the Return to Play Guidelines below, followed by the Sport-Specific Adjustments and Rule Changes:

Before, During and After Play

SCREENING: Self-screening must be completed by all players prior to every game.  If you feel any sort of illness and have been in recent contact with somebody who is sick, please stay home. If you are at a higher risk of experiencing serious illness from COVID-19, consider limiting or avoiding participation in sports activites. SCREENING CHECKLIST QUESTIONS - If you answer "Yes" to any of these question you must not participate.

HYGIENE: Players must wash their hands with soap and water and/or hand sanitizer before, during, and after play. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Players must not eat on game locations, share any water bottles or spit. Players must cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Players are advised to bring their own sanitizer to games.

CAPTAINS & SPIRIT: Team Captains will meet at a 2 meter distance before each game to discuss and ensure safety protocols are being met during COVID-19. Players must refrain from shaking hands, fist/elbow bumps, huddles and high-fives, despite the sportsmanlike nature of our league.

MASKS: All players must wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose before and after the game (coming and going to the parking lot) and in situations where social distancing may be more difficult.

PARTICIPATION: Team Captains are required to ensure that online rosters are complete and that attendance and weekly self-screening pledges have been completed by all teammates prior to play. Captains will need to submit a photo of the weekly attendace and self-screennig log to dave@perpetualmotion.org after each game.

SIDELINES & BENCHES: Teams must spread out along the sidelines and respect social distancing.  Teams are responsible for cleaning up any garbage they create in order to maintain a proper level of cleanliness.

SPECTATORS: Spectators are permitted, provided they can maintain social distancing and are wearing a mask. We recommend not bringing spectators unless necessary.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled game time when the field/courts are still in use.  If you arrive early please wait until the other team has completly cleared the playing field/court.  We need to ensure that social distancing is maintained at entrances and exits in particular.  No congregating at the field/court when another group is coming onto the field/court.  Please pack up and exit quickly and do not congregate in the parking lot before or after the game.  Masks must be worn going to and from the field/court.

Sport Specific Adjustments and Rule Changes

Perpetual Motion has made some modifications to the format of our Ultimate Frisbee Leagues in order to comply with Step 2 Team sports requirements and to ensure the safety of our players and staff.

Stall Fall Ultimate Frisbee Roster Size and Eligibility:

1. According to the Ontario Guidelines there are now no restrictions on the number of people or teams participating.

2. Only players who have signed the updated waiver, performed a self screening assessment, provided contact information and read the guidelines will be allowed to participate.

3. Captains will need to submit a log of players attendance and self screening assessment for tracing purposes.  A log sheet will be provided at the captains meeting.

Ultimate Frisbee Rule Adjustments and Equipment (Subject to Change):

1. Players must maintain physical distancing of 2-meters before, when possible during play, resting/sitting on the sideline and departing the game.  Masks must be worn going to and from the field. Please keep in mind that we are all responsible to make every effort to minimize prolonged or deliberate contact between players.  Players must refrain from high-fives, fist/elbow bumps, huddles and shaking hands.

2. Disc Space and Guarding the Disc:  The person defending the player with the disc must now be at least 1 meter away from the disc.  If they find themselves within this space they must immediately retreat.

3. Stall Counts:  Defenders cannot start counting on stall until they are in the 1-2 meter range of the player with the disc.  The counter will wave his arm in the air to start then do a 7 second silent count or count with their fingers, followed by a verbal Stall 8 to Stall 10.  If they purposefully leave this distance, the stall count re-sets.

4. Game Disc:  Teams should come with 2-3 usable game discs each and sanitizer or wipes for players to clean the disc.  Teams are encouraged to swap out discs or re-sanitize discs often.  Players should also bring hand sanitizer to clean their hands regularly throughout the game.  If a disc from another game lands on your field, do not throw it back.  Let a player from another field pick up their disc.

The UPA 11th Edition Rules of Ultimate apply, with these clarifications/modifications:

1. Points:

  1. All games are to 13 points, with a hard time cap at fifty minutes. Defaulted games will be scored 7-0 against the defaulting team. Half-time is when the first team gets to 7 points.
  2. At the fifty minute hard time cap, one air horn is blown, and play continues until a team scores. If the game is tied after the point is played out, a universal point (tie-breaker point) is to be played to determine the winner.
  3. No timeouts are permitted after the hard time cap. Calling a timeout will result in a loss of possession.
  4. You do not need to win by two points after hard time cap.
  5. Please note that the beginning of a point starts immediately after the previous point is scored.
  6. Spirit of the Game: After each game, a Spirit Score is awarded to the opposing team and marked on the score sheet. Each team will rank their opposition on a scale from 1 to 10, half scores are permitted. Please see the Spirit Score Information for clarification on how to score spirit.

2. Gender Ratio:

  1. A maximum of four players, of either gender, are allowed to be on the field at any time, no matching required.  A minimum of six players is needed to play a game without defaulting.

3. Time-outs:

  1. One time-out per half, per team, plus one floater.

4. Foot blocks:

  1. Foot blocks are not permitted.

5. Brick:

  1. Brick is marked out at 15 yards from the end zone.

6. Start Time:

  1. Please be on time to your games. Points may be given to the opponent of late teams at a rate of one point for every five minutes late.

7. Game Sheets:

  1. Captains are responsible for handing in the game sheets to the field convener at the end of each game. Please confirm the final score of the game with the opposing team.

8. Tiebreaker Criteria:

  1. If two teams are tied after "Pool Play", then the following is to be used to decide who places higher (winning percentage is to be used instead of points in the event that teams have played an unequal number of games):

  2. Point Differentials: Counting only games against the tied teams.
  3. Points Scored: Counting only games against the tied teams.
  4. Points Against: Counting only games against the tied teams.
  5. Point Differentials: Counting only games against common opponents.
  6. Points Scored: Counting only games against all common opponents.

Teams are responsible for other teammates' actions; as a teammate, please encourage good sportsmanship at all times. Perpetual Motion Sports & Entertainment Inc. reserves the right to eject a player or team without a warning and without a refund.
  2. Alcohol is not permitted at any game or event, and offenders will be asked to leave the tournament without refund. Playing while intoxicated is prohibited.
  3. LIGHTNING POLICY: If thunder is heard within 30 seconds of seeing lightning, games will be postponed.
