Guelph Dodgeball is inspired and fascinated by the instant classic “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” movie, starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, Perpetual Motion ran its first ever “Dodgeball Tournament” in March of 2006. It consisted of 12 keen teams that had about as much experience playing Dodgeball as the team in the movie. Since then, hundreds of players have walked through the gym doors of St. John Kilmarnock. They are eager to prove their throwing prowess, while anxious that at any moment, a stray ball could come their way.

With tournaments filling up months in advance, there seemed to be only one solution – a new, unique type of Dodgeball tournament. Therefore, Perpetual Motion established the “In the Sand” Dodgeball tournament played outside on Beach Volleyball courts. The format is similar, but the results are markedly different. Without fear of rug burn or banged up elbows, players are freer to dive every which way, adding new meaning to the tagline “Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge”.

Perpetual Motion’s Dodgeball tournaments have become famous for the laughter that is shared, the hilarious costumes worn and the encouraging feeling that nothing is required to play except a good attitude, a sense of humour and openness to experience.
